EPH155 Analysis of the Risk Factors for Failed Back Surgery Syndrome: Real-World Evidence

چکیده
Failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) is defined as persistent pain following spine surgery, particularly when the procedure fails to relieve pre-operative symptoms. To understand FBSS prevalence, we identified patient characteristics which may predict development. De-identified records were extracted from Cerner Real World Data, a US electronic health record database. Patients who underwent between 2018-2019, and then those developed FBSS, via ICD-10 codes. The first was used index. Diagnoses of depression or anxiety assessed up six months pre-index using ICD-10-CM, while age, body mass index (BMI), sex evaluated at Number lifetime surgeries prior also evaluated. Univariate bivariate analyses conducted logistic regression report prevalence ratios (PR). A total 22,020 patients whom 728 (median age 61 years; 55% female). Compared aged 18-44, more likely in groups 45-54 55-64 by factors 1.38 (p=0.023) 1.33 (p=0.03), respectively. Those with history moderate 1.50x (p=0.04) have compared no history, overweight obese 1.48x (p=0.017) 1.92x (p<0.00001) normal BMIs. Prior linked higher prevalence: 2 (PR: 1.22, p=0.025), 3 1.43, p=0.0048), 4 1.88, p<0.00001), 5+ 2.36, p<0.00001). Bivariate found that females overweight, obese, moderately depressed, 1.66 (p=0.0271), 2.25 (p=0.00006), 1.81 (p=0.011), multitude contribute onset, highlighting need weigh benefits against risks considering surgical treatment for relief.

Objectives. To evaluate the long-term results of different therapies for failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS). Materials and Methods. From 1992 to 1997, 49 patients were treated for FBSS. Twenty patients were treated medically. Twenty-four patients, who did not respond to medical therapy, underwent spinal cord stimulator (SCS) implant and five underwent further spine surgery. All patients were e...
متن کاملFailed back surgery syndrome: diagnostic evaluation.
Failed back surgery syndrome is a common problem with enormous costs to patients, insurers, and society. The etiology of failed back surgery can be poor patient selection, incorrect diagnosis, suboptimal selection of surgery, poor technique, failure to achieve surgical goals, and/or recurrent pathology. Successful intervention in this difficult patient population requires a detailed history, pr...
متن کاملFailed back surgery syndrome: current perspectives
The treatment of failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) can be equally challenging to surgeons, pain specialists, and primary care providers alike. The onset of FBSS occurs when surgery fails to treat the patient's lumbar spinal pain. Minimizing the likelihood of FBSS is dependent on determining a clear etiology of the patient's pain, recognizing those who are at high risk, and exhausting conserva...
متن کاملMRI findings in failed back surgery syndrome.
The failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) is a difficult diagnostic problem both clinically and radiologically. Forty-three patients were evaluated prospectively with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and forty-five scans were obtained. Fifteen patients (33%) showed recurrent disc prolapse; 15 (33%) patients postoperative epidural fibrosis; 8 (18%) both recurrent disc prolapse and epidural scarrin...
